One year since the release of the NWT Water Stewardship Strategy Action Plan 2016-2020, the comprehensive 2016/2017 NWT Water Stewardship Strategy Progress Review took place and assessed 52 Performance Indicators and 84 Action Items. The Government of the Northwest Territories is be developing a Waste Resource Management Strategy to serve as a 10-year road map for improving waste resource management throughout the NWT. This Discussion Paper was developed by Environment and Natural Resources to provide some background information on the state of waste resource management in the NWT. Feedback on the Discussion Paper will inform the development of a draft Strategy and implementation plan.

The Mining RECLAIM Model has been developed to assist the GNWT, the Land and/or Water Boards, and other stakeholders (typically proponents) to estimate closure and reclamation costs at mines and advanced mineral explorations projects in the Northwest Territories (NWT). This User Manual includes descriptions of:
Considerations for closure cost estimates in northern settings (Section 2);
How different parties may approach the cost estimate for a given site (Section 3); and
The RECLAIM Model and guidance on how to use it (Section 4 and 5).

The draft Climate Change Strategic Framework outlines the GNWT's comprehensive and coordinated response to climate change, laying out a long-term approach to developing a strong, healthy economy that is less dependent on fossil fuels; increasing our understanding of the impacts of climate change; and improving our ability to build resilience and adapt to a changing climate.
