The 2030 NWT Climate Change Strategic Framework lays out the GNWT’s comprehensive and coordinated response to climate change. It outlines the GNWT’s long-term approach to developing a strong, healthy economy that is less dependent on fossil fuels; increasing our understanding of the impacts of climate change; and improving our ability to build resilience and adapt to a changing climate.

Description: 

A draft Climate Change Strategic Framework was released by the GNWT for external comment during December 2016 and January 2017. Numerous comments were submitted by Indigenous governments, community organizations, industry, non-government organizations and the public, covering many themes and topics pertaining to climate change. This valuable input informed the final 2030 NWT Climate Change Strategic Framework. A broad summary of comments received, and what the GNWT did to address comments, is outlined under eight themes in this document.

  • Hazardous Waste Carrier Registration Form: Hazardous wastes must be handled or disposed of properly to prevent harm to human health and safety and to the environment. If you are generating or carrying hazardous waste in the NWT, you are required to register with the Government of the Northwest Territories to obtain a generator or carrier number. 

  • Formulaire d’inscription des transporteurs de déchets dangereux : Les déchets dangereux doivent être manipulés ou éliminés de façon appropriée si l’on veut éviter de nuire à la santé et à la sécurité des personnes ainsi qu’à l’environnement. Si vous produisez ou transportez des déchets dangereux aux TNO, vous devez vous inscrire auprès du gouvernement des Territoires du Nord-Ouest pour obtenir un numéro de producteur ou de transporteur.

Description: 

Ever wonder how to easily track wildlife in the winter? A pilot study in the Sahtu Region collected such information helping to achieve the regional coverage necessary for monitoring changes to wildlife distribution brought about by industrial development, natural disturbance and climate change. Environment and Natural Resources’ issue #15 of the NWT al Research Bulletin (NERB) series is now available and highlights Tracking Wildlife in the Sahtu Region. Bulletins are issued regularly here to provide a summary of research findings or concepts for NWT residents and northern resource decision makers. Please feel free to circulate broadly.
