NWT Cumulative Impact Monitoring Program (NWT CIMP)

Priorities

Priorities

NWT decision-makers have guided NWT CIMP to focus its monitoring and research on three priority valued components: caribou, water, and fish, given their importance to northerners.

Specific monitoring Blueprints for each VC reflect the cumulative impact monitoring and research priorities of  land and water decision-makers, subject-matter experts, and the NWT CIMP Steering Committee. The Blueprints inform funding applicants of NWT CIMP funding priorities, and guide program work planning. They are updated every five years.

Traditional Knowledge

The use of Traditional Knowledge (TK) in cumulative impact monitoring is a program priority. The NWT CIMP Steering Committee defines TK as facts, information, skills, values and beliefs which have been acquired through experience, observations or by oral means from the land or from the spiritual teachings handed down through generations. See Traditional Knowledge Monitoring Ideas for more information.
