NWT Cumulative Impact Monitoring Program (NWT CIMP)

Steering Committee

The meaningful involvement of Indigenous governments in the design and function of NWT CIMP is a requirement of land claims and the Mackenzie Valley Resource Management Act. Indigenous partners are involved in all aspects of the program through the NWT CIMP Steering Committee. The Steering Committee provides guidance and ensures that the program continues to meet the needs of its partners. Indigenous representatives are asked to consult with their regions on key decisions to gather input and to bring back monitoring results and information.

The Steering Committee is composed of Indigenous, federal and territorial government representatives, including:

  • Gwich’in Tribal Council
  • Sahtu Secretariat Incorporated
  • Tłı̨chǫ Government
  • Inuvialuit Game Council
  • Northwest Territory Métis Nation
  • North Slave Métis Alliance
  • Government of Canada (represented by Fisheries and Oceans Canada)
  • Government of the Northwest Territories (represented by Environment and Climate Change)

At this time, observers receive all materials and correspondence, including:

  • Dehcho First Nations
  • Akaitcho Territory Government
  • Mackenzie Valley Land and Water Board
  • Mackenzie Valley Review Board
  • Aurora Research Institute

Indigenous partner observers have a standing offer to become members at any time.
