Colin Taylor appointed mediator for GNWT and UNW negotiations

YELLOWKNIFE (April 2, 2012) -- Colin Taylor, a mediator with more than 30 years of experience, will be assisting the Government of the NWT and the Union of Northern Workers as they work towards a new collective agreement.

The GNWT and the Union have been negotiating a new collective agreement since December 19, 2011. After three rounds of negotiations, agreement was reached on a number of items. However, on March 1, 2012, the parties agreed to go to mediation to resolve the remaining issues.

Our ability to provide quality programs and services is clearly linked to recruiting and retaining talented staff who are committed to their professions, their communities, and the people they serve. The public service is the face of the GNWT.

NWT Labour Force Activity

September 12, 2011 - For August 2011, Statistics Canada estimates that 23,500 out of 32,200 residents 15 years of age and older were employed in the Northwest Territories, representing an employment rate of 73.0%. Overall, Canada’s employment rate stood at 63.0% in August. Compared to July 2011, employment in the NWT rose by 300 persons.

eRecruit

March 9, 2011 - The Minister of Human Resources announced that by the end of March 2011, the final phases of eRecruit, the Government’s on-line, electronic recruitment and staffing system, will be launched.

November 1, 2010 - Today, the Minister of Human Resources, Bob McLeod, announced the results of the 2010 Employee Satisfaction and Engagement survey.


I am pleased to announce the results of the 2010 Employee Satisfaction and Engagement survey. As I’ve often stated, Mr. Speaker, our employees are this government’s most important asset. Though difficult to quantify, employee engagement and satisfaction is of vital importance to the effectiveness of our public service.
