Mineral Master Receives Industry Award

YELLOWKNIFE (May 13, 2016) — A transformative figure in the Northwest Territories’ (NWT) mining sector, who discovered the Snap Lake kimberlite deposit, received pan-territorial recognition yesterday.

Randy Turner, President and CEO of Canterra Minerals and Independence Gold, was awarded the Professional Award of Merit in Geosciences by the Northwest Territories and Nunavut Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists (NAPEG) for excellence in applied geology and geoscience in the NWT and Nunavut.

Northwest Territories Parks are now Open

YELLOWKNIFE (May 13, 2016) — Gates swung open at parks across the Northwest Territories (NWT) this morning marking the start of another spectacular season for outdoors enthusiasts from the territory and beyond.

Park users will notice some improvements in facilities this year, with $3.5 million in capital investment allocated to the NWT’s five regions by the Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI) for the 2016-2017 fiscal year. 

Road and Campground Guide Connects Travellers to Information

YELLOWKNIFE (May 6, 2016) - A targeted Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) marketing initiative is putting 30,000 pocket-sized guides to NWT parks and campgrounds into the hands of identified Alberta RV-ers and campers this week.

With a downswing in the economy and the lower Canadian dollar, it is anticipated that many Albertans will opt for road holidays within Canada this summer.  The NWT’s world-class parks and campgrounds offer a unique and attractive holiday destination. 

Be Tourist in Your own Town Launches in Yellowknife

YELLOWKNIFE (May 6, 2016)An annual initiative to stimulate local interest, awareness and foot traffic for the tourism sector returns to Yellowknife tomorrow.

The Be a Tourist in Your own Town initiative will launch its second-year at the Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce Spring Trade Show with the distribution of a coupon book full of deals and discounts for local tourism businesses and service providers.

Northwest Territories Highlighted in Canada 150 Production; Local Talent Assists

YELLOWKNIFE (APRIL 13, 2016) — Filming recently wrapped up in Yellowknife for an immersive, 360- degree film experience which will feature the unique sights, sounds, and culture of the Northwest Territories (NWT).

SESQUI — a multi-media festival funded by the Government of Canada for the 2017 celebrations of 150-years of Confederation — shot footage to be included in a nationally touring presentation celebrating the diverse cultures and lands Canadians share in the Yellowknife area.

Film Rebate Program Applications Open for 2016

YELLOWKNIFE (APRIL 11, 2016) — Filmmakers wishing to work in the Northwest Territories (NWT) may now submit their proposals to receive significant rebates on their projects.

The Film Rebate Program offers guest and local producers alike the opportunity to receive rebates on goods, services, travel, and wages for films made in the NWT.

Proposals are due on May 6 for productions taking place through March 2017.

Fur and Hide Program Delivers Solid Results

YELLOWKNIFE (APRIL 8, 2016) — A program designed to assist artisans in the Northwest Territories (NWT) has proved successful in 2015.

The Fur and Hide Procurement Program — a function of the Genuine Mackenzie Valley Fur Program — provided nearly $1 million in economic benefit created from the program.

These are the best results yet recorded by the program, which aims to connect local artisans with fur products required for their creations.
