NWT Premier promotes responsible development at BC mining event

YELLOWKNIFE (January 25, 2016) – Premier of the Northwest Territories and Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI) Bob McLeod will attend the 2016 Mineral Exploration Roundup in Vancouver, BC this week. The Premier will promote the importance of the resource development industry to the Northwest Territories economy, highlighting the need for continued infrastructure investment and completion of a made-in-the-North regulatory regime that facilitates responsible development in line with NWT priorities and values.

GNWT attracting talent at Alberta career fair

EDMONTON (January 22, 2016) — Representatives from the GNWT’s Come Make Your Mark campaign were at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) this week to generate excitement and awareness about living and working in Canada’s Northwest Territories.

The retention and attraction of a trained resident workforce is a foundational priority of the NWT Economic Opportunities Strategy and supports efforts to encourage NWT population growth. 

Major Hollywood film makes NWT debut; showcases local film talent

YELLOWKNIFE (January 8, 2016) – Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI) Bob McLeod will join the Northwest Territories’ film industry  tonight in a red-carpet NWT premiere of the 20th Century Fox film The Revenant featuring Melaw Nakehk’o — originally from Fort Simpson.

Tonight’s screening and festivities, sponsored by Dene Nahjo, will celebrate the film's indigenous theme and the positive impacts that the film sector can provide in the recognition of Aboriginal cultures, languages and traditional knowledge.

GNWT Introduces Assessment Work Incentive for Mineral Exploration Industry

YELLOWKNIFE (October 16, 2015) – The Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI) is introducing a two-year temporary Assessment Work Incentive for exploration activities conducted by recorded mineral claim holders in the NWT.

ITI Minister David Ramsay says the move comes in response to a recommendation in the NWT Mineral Development Strategy and is supported by the Mining Industry Advisory Board (MIAB).

State of NWT Agriculture Report Highlights Growth Potential

YELLOWKNIFE (October 15, 2015) – Community engagements this summer to inform the drafting of a new NWT Agriculture Strategy show the industry is celebrating a resurgence in the territory and its potential as a growth sector increasingly realized.

Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment David Ramsay released a report last week documenting what the department learned from approximately 200 individuals during public engagements, site visits and interviews in 10 NWT communities.
