FORT PROVIDENCE (November 6, 2012) – The official opening of the Deh Cho Bridge will be held on Friday, November 30, 2012.
Mr. Speaker, I am pleased to update Members on the Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk highway project.
Mr. Speaker, when we meet here in the Legislative Assembly we often talk about the opportunities for our communities and residents provided through the GNWT’s infrastructure programs. However, today I would like to bring your attention to work that the Department of Public Works and Services is doing as part of the GNWT’s environmental remediation program, and the opportunities that this work is creating for our smaller communities.
YELLOWKNIFE (November 1, 2012) – November is Road Safety Month in the Northwest Territories. Minister of Transportation David Ramsay reminds drivers that even though great progress has been made in improving road safety in the territory, there is still much more that can be done.
YELLOWKNIFE (October 25, 2012) – Pedestrians, particularly parents of children, are reminded of the importance of wearing reflective material when walking on our sidewalks, streets and highways. Children walking to and from school and those using crosswalks will be most visible to drivers when wearing reflective material on their outer clothing.
Mr. Speaker, it gives me great pleasure to congratulate the Department of Transportation for receiving the Silver Award for Innovation from the Institute of Public Administrators of Canada.
Every year, the institute recognizes world-class innovators for improving public service in Canada. This year, the Department of Transportation is nationally recognized as one of these innovators. This prestigious award acknowledges the hard work of many individuals and provides an opportunity to share the influence of their good ideas with the rest of Canada.

YELLOWKNIFE (AUGUST 29, 2012) – The Department of Transportation (DOT) has been recognized for innovative management by the Institute of Public Administration of Canada (IPAC). DOT was one of nine national finalists for the IPAC/IBM Award for Innovative Management for its New Aboriginal Engagement Processes for Planning Major Infrastructure Projects. The submission, which was for planning and consultation work required for the Mackenzie Valley Highway Project, came in second overall.
YELLOWKNIFE (August 15, 2012) -- Drive with extra caution: that's the message for drivers on highways 3, 5, and 7 from mid-August until mid-December. The additional caution is required because more than 75% of bison collisions in the Northwest Territories occur during this four-month period.
