Recognition of Indspire Awards Recipients

(February 12, 2013) - Mr. Speaker, the Government of the Northwest Territories is a proud sponsor of the 2013 Indspire awards.  Formerly known as the National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation, Indspire promotes the development, education and professional advancement of Aboriginal people in Canadian society.

I will be attending the awards this week in Saskatoon.  It gives me great pleasure to announce that two Northwest Territories residents will receive awards this year.

NWT Days in Ottawa

(February 8, 2013) - Mr. Speaker, last week I was honoured to represent the people and the potential of the Northwest Territories on the national stage at NWT Days.  Since becoming Premier I have often said wouldn’t it be great if we could all go to Ottawa together, and Mr. Speaker, I can say with complete confidence, it was great.  The Government of the Northwest Territories strengthened our presence in the nation’s capital and provided an opportunity to focus Canada’s attention on our priorities, potential and vision for the future.

Premier Bob McLeod speech from Spectacular NWT Gala in Ottawa

(February 1, 2013) - We're here in Ottawa to put the focus on the NWT. We've been having very focused meetings with federal ministers and stakeholders about the future of our territory. We're looking for partnerships to get us to the next step, to help us to develop a sustainable economy that supports healthy, vibrant communities all over Canada's North and maintains Arctic sovereignty. We know what we want and we are focused on making those things a reality.

Premier McLeod's address to the Fur Harvesters Auction Convention

(January 25, 2013) - Good evening, I am very pleased to be at this year’s Fur Harvesters Auction Annual Convention. It is nice to see some familiar faces from my life before I became Premier.

I want to congratulate Fur Harvesters Auction on its largest and most successful opening fur auction earlier this month. I expect this will be another great year for the fur industry and your work is a big part of that success.

I’d like to talk to you tonight about the role of the fur harvesting industry in the Northwest Territories.

Statement of Condolence to the family of Dr. R. Gordon Robertson, Companion of the Order of Canada and former Commissioner of the NWT, from Premier Bob McLeod

(January 18, 2013) - I was saddened to hear of Dr. Robertson’s passing on Monday, January 14, 2013. It was during his ten years as Commissioner that the current borders of the Northwest Territories were recommended, and our strong, unified territory owes its beginnings to his leadership. He served with the first, second, third and fourth Legislative Councils of the Northwest Territories, the forerunners of our fully elected Legislative Assemblies.
