Media invited to attend Outstanding Volunteers Awards ceremony

Media are invited to attend the public ceremony honouring recipients of the 2025 NWT Outstanding Volunteer Awards. These annual awards recognize individuals and groups who have made exceptional contributions to communities across the Northwest Territories through volunteering. Since 1991, the Government of the Northwest Territories has presented the NWT Outstanding Volunteer Awards in four categories: Outstanding Elder, Outstanding Youth, Outstanding Individual, and Outstanding Group.

Northwest Territories Nominee Program Key Updates and Launch Information for 2026 Opening

Media are invited to a news conference announcing the 2026 opening of the Northwest Territories Nominee Program’s Employer-Driven and Francophone streams.

Details will include the 2026 opening date and time, the release of the What We Heard report, and changes to the Employer-Driven Stream.

Media Invited to announcement of Home Base Stabilization Education Program

Media are invited to attend the announcement of the Home Base Stabilization Education Program (STEP), a collaborative initiative between Home Base Yellowknife, Yellowknife Education District No. 1, Yellowknife Catholic Schools, and the Government of the Northwest Territories.

Operating within Home Base Yellowknife, the program is designed for youth across the Northwest Territories (NWT) whose complex needs — including trauma, housing instability, mental health challenges, and substance use — make it difficult to succeed in traditional school settings. 

New Housing and Child Care Through Rockhill Development and Opportunities from Hilltop Demolition

Media are invited to a press conference announcing details on the 54th Avenue Housing Project, located at the former Rockhill Apartments site. Details will include the impact on housing and child care availability, as well as updates on the Hilltop Apartments demolition to prepare the site for future development opportunities.

Government of the Northwest Territories to release 2026-27 Budget

Media are invited to attend the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) 2026-2027 Budget Lockup.

When:             February 5, 2026

Where:           Arthur Laing Building, 6th Floor, Large Boardroom

Time:              9:00 AM – 12:30 PM

Embargoed copies of budget materials will be available, and Department of Finance staff will be available to answer technical questions.

Finance Minister Caroline Wawzonek will attend the lockup for interviews between 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM. She will not be available for interviews later that day.
