Tłįchǫ Government and GNWT hold intergovernmental meeting

YELLOWKNIFE (February 14, 2013) – Members of the Executive Councils of the Tłįchǫ Government and the 17th Legislative Assembly met bilaterally on Friday, February 8th. This was the third meeting between the two Executives and reflects the continuing development of their government-to-government relationship and commitment to working collaboratively on behalf of the Tłįchǫ  people and all residents of the Northwest Territories.

Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medals Presented to Behchoko residents

YELLOWKNIFE (February 13, 2013) –Honourable Jackson Lafferty, MLA for Monfwi, Grand Chief Edward Erasmus and Chief Clifford Daniels, presented the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medals to four Behchoko residents on Thursday, February 7 in the Great Hall of the Legislative Assembly. Also in attendance were Commissioner of the Northwest Territories George Tuccaro, Chief Alfonz Nitsiza, Chief Charlie Football and Chief Edward Chocolate.

GNWT in Rough Diamond Allocation Discussions with Dominion Diamond Corporation

YELLOWKNIFE (February 6, 2013) The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is in active discussions with Harry Winston Diamond Corporation, soon to be renamed Dominion Diamond Corporation (DDC).  These discussions are the first step in securing a formal diamond allocation agreement with DDC for a portion of production from their diamond mining interests in the NWT.

EIRB Panel report favours Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk Highway project

INUVIK (January 30, 2013) - The Environmental Impact Review Board (EIRB) has completed its review of the Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk Highway and submitted its final report to the Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada.  The Government of Northwest Territories is reviewing the report, which supports approval of the project with conditions.
