Aboriginal Engagement Strategy

YELLOWKNIFE (June 11, 2012) – The GNWT has made a formal commitment to a set of principles and key actions to strengthen and renew relationships with its Aboriginal government partners. “Respect, Recognition, Responsibility: The Government of the Northwest Territories’ Approach to Engaging with Aboriginal Governments” was developed based on discussions with Aboriginal governments and community leaders. It has been produced in all NWT official languages.

Government of Northwest Territories Welcomes Changing Directions, Changing Lives: The Mental Health Strategy for Canada

YELLOWKNIFE (June 7, 2012) – Building on last month’s overwhelmingly successful release of Canada’s first-ever mental health strategy, the Mental Health Commission of Canada is in Yellowknife to launch Changing Directions, Changing Lives: The Mental Health Strategy for Canada. The Strategy was shaped and informed by the experiences and input from thousands of Canadians, including considerable engagement in Northwest Territories.

Budget Protects Programs and Services and Rebuilds for the Future

YELLOWKNIFE (May 24, 2012) – Today, Finance Minister J. Michael Miltenberger presented the first budget of the 17th Legislative Assembly.

The 2012-13 Budget projects an operating surplus of $74 million; returning the GNWT to its first surplus in five years. The Budget includes no new taxes. However, effective April 1, 2012, property tax mill rates, liquor mark-ups and a number of fees were adjusted for inflation.
