New Four-Year Contract for NWT Physicians

YELLOWKNIFE (May 8, 2012) - The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) and the Northwest Territories Medical Association (NWTMA) have reached agreement on a contract for physician services in the Northwest Territories.  The previous contract between the GNWT and the NWTMA expired on March 31, 2012.

“I am pleased that the NWTMA and the government were able to work together to address outstanding issues and reach an agreement that is fair and reasonable,” said Dr. Peter Mcarthur, President of the NWTMA.

NWT film selected for screening at Cannes Film Festival

YELLOWKNIFE (May 8, 2012) -- Northwest Territories resident Andrew Silke’s short film, Amelia, will screen at the 65th Cannes International Film Festival in France. Everyone in the cast and crew is from the Northwest Territories and the production was filmed in the territory.

This year’s Festival runs from May 16-27 and Amelia will screen as part of Telefilm Canada’s program, Not Short on Talent.

Tentative Collective Agreement Reached Between the Northwest Territories Teachers’ Association and the Government of the NWT

YELLOWNIFE (May 4, 2012) -- The Northwest Territories Teachers’ Association and the Government of the Northwest Territories have reached a tentative collective agreement.  Both parties are recommending ratification of the agreement to their principals.

Report to the Hay River Town Council

YELLOWKNIFE (April 25, 2012) - On April 23, 2012, representatives from the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs presented Hay River Town Council with a report detailing the results of the investigation into the concerns raised by former mayor Kelly Schofield about the town’s operation. While the report points to a number of issues regarding the town’s operation, there was no evidence that there has been any misappropriation or other wrongdoing.

GNWT Marks the 20th Anniversary of the Gwich’in Land Claim

YELLOWKNIFE (April 20, 2012) – The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) joins with the Gwich’in and all the people of the Northwest Territories to mark the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Gwich’in Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement. Premier McLeod offered his congratulations to the Gwich’in Tribal Council at Dene Leadership Meetings in Inuvik earlier this week.
