Unprecedented flooding Is currently affecting thousands of residents in the Northwest Territories.
Premier Caroline Cochrane and Shane Thompson, Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs, issued the following statement on behalf of Cabinet concerning the current flooding in Hay River and Kátł’odeeche First Nation:
The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) will match donations up to $150,000, to support those impacted by flooding in 2022 in the Northwest Territories.
The Department of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA) is announcing the annual notice of the nomination deadline for the Northwest Territories (NWT) Outstanding Volunteer Awards.
On Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at 9:55am, as part of Emergency Preparedness Week, the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) will conduct a live test of NWT Alert, the Northwest Territories public alert notification system.
The GNWT is launching an after-action review in which community governments, flood-affected residents, businesses, and those who participated in the emergency response will have their say on the territory’s 2021 flood response and disaster assistance.
The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) wants residents to be ready for emergencies when they happen. With spring flood and wildfire seasons approaching, the territorial government has launched a new campaign to help residents prepare.

Mr. Speaker, the floods of 2021 were extraordinary, and they caused life-altering hardship for so many residents, families, and communities. I am very pleased to advise that the majority of those who were impacted are now back in their homes.
