Status of Evacuation Notices, Alerts, and Orders

Fort Simpson - Evacuation Alert Lifted July 24, 2026 @ 15:00

• On behalf of the Village of Fort Simpson, the Evacuation Alert in effect for Fort Simpson has been lifted as of 3pm on Friday, July 24, 2026.

• Residents and visitors should continue to exercise caution when travelling or recreating near the fire area, as wildfire-related hazards may still exist, including fire-weakened trees, ash pits, and active suppression operations.

Wrigley – Evacuation Order

• The Evacuation Order for Wrigley remains in place. It is not yet safe to return.

• The Evacuation Order was issued by the community of Wrigley on June 29, 2026.

All personal accommodations outside of evacuation centres are at the expense and responsibility of the individual and are not eligible for reimbursement. 

Emergency Evacuation Relief Program – All evacuees

• Find information about the Emergency Evacuation Relief Program (EERP), the Emergency Allowance benefits health care, mental health support, child and family services and other GNWT programs online.

Residents who evacuated Fort Simpson have until Aug 1 to apply to the Emergency Evacuation Relief Program. You can complete the application online at https://www.gov.nt.ca/en/form/evacuee-funding. For assistance or more information, please email EVAC@gov.nt.ca or call: (867) 767-9168 ext. 15003.

United Way

• They have activated their Emergency Response Funding Program to get fast, flexible funding to local organizations supporting evacuees.

• NGOs and Indigenous governments can submit a funding request to ed@nwt.unitedway.ca to further support evacuees. Visit https://nwt.unitedway.ca
