NWT Housing Corporation kicks off 50th anniversary with new visual identity and new name

News Releases

Yellowknife — March 30, 2022

The Northwest Territories Housing Corporation (NWTHC) is beginning its 50th anniversary celebrations with a new name and updated visual identity as part of the Strategy for Renewal of the Northwest Territories Housing Corporation.

As of April 1, 2022, the NWTHC will be known as Housing NWT, better reflecting its new mandate. A new logo has also been developed, featuring a modern, Northern theme of the aurora, replacing the traditional NWT shield logo surrounded by elements of a house. These changes are a symbol of a much larger change taking place within the NWTHC that will ensure policies and programs are client-focused, accountable, collaborative, innovative, sustainable, and founded in the spirit of reconciliation.

NWTHC’s 50th anniversary provides a meaningful opportunity to reflect on its past successes as it advances the actions identified in its renewal strategy. Over the next year, Housing NWT will be organizing a series of events to connect with employees past and present to reflect on where it started and what it has accomplished over the last 50 years.

“I am excited to be part of this 50th anniversary, which allows us to pause and acknowledge all the incredible work, vision and success that the NWTHC has had over the last 50 years. This also gives us an opportunity to look ahead as we advance the corporation’s renewal strategy with a new name and visual identity. All of this is part of a much larger change that will make housing across the NWT more affordable and accessible for residents who need it most.”

- Paulie Chinna, Minister Responsible for the Northwest Territories Housing Corporation
