Mr. Speaker, the Legislative Assembly has identified education, training and youth development as one of its priorities and the Government of the Northwest Territories has made several commitments in its mandate to advance that priority.  Work in these areas is foundational to the future success of our territory, and we have seen some solid progress on many initiatives in education, training and youth development.

Mr. Speaker, two of the key factors in community wellness and safety are education and partnership. Every person and organization across the Northwest Territories has something to contribute to help make our communities healthy and safe.

At the Department of Education, Culture and Employment, all of our programs and services follow a continuum of strategies, building on the foundations of the others. These strategies are designed to address community and resident needs from early childhood, through to ensuring Northerners have the skills, attitudes and opportunities for success.

Mr. Speaker, over the past year, the Department of Education, Culture and Employment has implemented new initiatives and improved existing programs and services to help meet our mandate commitments to address the cost of living for NWT residents.

We all understand the importance of reducing poverty and providing our residents with the tools necessary to achieve their goals and live healthy, productive lives. The work underway at the Department supports those goals.

Mr. Speaker, today I rise to provide clarification on the implementation of Junior Kindergarten in the Northwest Territories.  I think we can all agree that we want to give NWT children the support they need to thrive and be successful, Mr. Speaker.

Yellowknife, le 23 janvier 2017 – Le ministère de l’Éducation, de la Culture et de la Formation (MÉCF), l’Association des enseignants et enseignantes des Territoires du Nord-Ouest (AEETNO) et l’Association des surintendants des Territoires du Nord-Ouest ont annoncé aujourd’hui leur partenariat en vue d’un renforcement des pratiques d’enseignement (le Renforcement) sur l’ensemble du territoire.

Yellowknife, le 5 décembre 2016 – Le ministre de l’Éducation, de la Culture et de la Formation Alfred Moses a rencontré les présidents des Conseils scolaires vendredi pour discuter de questions d’intérêt commun et pour planifier les activités à venir. Le ministre et les présidents se rencontrent généralement tous les six mois.

Yellowknife, le 17 novembre 2016 – Le 4 novembre dernier, le ministre de l’Éducation, de la Culture et de la Formation, M. Alfred Moses, a déposé le Plan d’action quadriennal Des compétences pour réussir, qui fixe les mesures à prendre pour améliorer les chances de réussite des Ténois sur le marché du travail.

Yellowknife, le 16 novembre 2016 – Dans le cadre de leur collaboration continue, le gouvernement des Territoires du Nord-Ouest (GTNO) et le Comité de consultation et de coopération de la Fédération franco-ténoise (FFT) se sont rencontrés hier pour faire le point sur la mise en œuvre du Plan stratégique du GTNO sur les communications et les services en français.

Mr. Speaker, the Government of the Northwest Territories has made a commitment in its mandate to take steps to close the skills gap using the Skills 4 Success Strategic Framework. I am pleased to advise Members that later today I will be tabling the Skills 4 Success 4-Year Action Plan 2016-2020, which outlines what we will do to improve employment success for the people of the Northwest Territories. This is an important milestone in meeting our mandate commitment.

Mr. Speaker, the Government of the Northwest Territories has made a commitment in its mandate to strengthen culture and heritage in the NWT by working with stakeholders to update the 2010 NWT Aboriginal Languages Plan: A Shared Responsibility.
