Tentative Collective Agreement reached between the NWT Teachers’ Association and the Government of the Northwest Territories

YELLOWKNIFE (June 28, 2016) – The NWT Teachers’ Association and the Government of the Northwest Territories have reached a tentative agreement.  Both parties are pleased with the progress made in negotiations and are recommending ratification of the agreement to their principals. 

Details of the tentative agreement will not be publicly released until the ratification process is completed.

Yellowknife, le 1er juin 2016 – Le ministre des Finances, Robert C. McLeod, a publié aujourd’hui le budget 2016-2017 du gouvernement des Territoires du Nord-Ouest (GTNO), qui propose d’investir 35 millions de dollars dans de nouvelles initiatives pour réaliser les priorités de la 18e Assemblée législative.

Le budget de 1,6 milliard de dollars illustre bien l’engagement du GTNO à protéger les programmes sociaux de base : 1 milliard du budget total est alloué aux programmes et aux services dont les Ténois ont besoin chaque jour.

Mr. Speaker, this first budget of the 18th Legislative Assembly is about putting our fiscal house in order so that we can continue to provide quality programs and services and over the life of this Assembly, focus on what matters to the people of the NWT. We have worked with Members of this Assembly through the various Standing Committees to make the choices to guarantee that we can continue to provide the core programs and services that NWT residents need, and start to deliver on priorities identified in this Assembly’s mandate.

Good morning.  Thank you for the opportunity to speak today about the importance of infrastructure investment to the growth of the Northwest Territories.

The Government of the Northwest Territories has recognized the opportunities public-private partnerships (P3s) can bring to help the government address its current infrastructure deficit, which is currently around $3 billion, and other key strategic infrastructure projects that would help stimulate our economy and improve services to our residents.

Finance Minister says GNWT needs to find $150 million

YELLOWKNIFE (February 19, 2016) – The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) will begin posting deficit budgets by the 2019-20 fiscal year unless it finds approximately $150 million through a combination of expenditure reductions and revenue measures over the next five years Minister of Finance Robert C. McLeod revealed in his fiscal update to the Legislative Assembly today.
