Premier’s Awards Presented

Yellowknife (June 4, 2014) – Premier Bob McLeod recognized individual employees, teams of employees and their collaborative partners from outside the public service with the Premier’s Awards for Excellence and Collaboration in a ceremony in the Great Hall of the Legislative Assembly this morning.

World No-Tobacco Day Get Reel Winners Announced

YELLOWKNIFE (June 2, 2014) – Winners of the Get Reel contest were announced on the Department of Health and Social Services website for World No Tobacco Day, May 31, 2014.

Get Reel is a contest where students in Grades 5 to 12 in all three Northern territories make their own short anti-tobacco ads. This is the second year Get Reel has run as part of the Smoke Screening program. There were 72 ads created, 15 from NWT schools.

Construction of Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk Highway Well Underway

INUVIK (May 30, 2014) – With its first construction season over, the Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk Highway construction project is well underway.

It was a short and busy winter as more than 425 workers began constructing the highly anticipated 137-kilometre all-season highway that will link the communities of Inuvik and Tuktoyaktuk, which is currently only served by ice road, barge and air. This new highway to the Arctic coast will connect Canada’s road network from coast to coast to coast.
