Campaign Promotes Water Safety in NWT Territorial Park Beaches

YELLOWKNIFE (May 21, 2014) – The Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI) has launched a new campaign to keep water safety top of mind at beaches in territorial parks for Northwest Territories’ residents and visitors.

“We have beautiful beaches in the NWT and I know everyone is looking forward to enjoying them,” said Minister of ITI David Ramsay. “This campaign is a reminder that people can have fun while being safety-conscious. We are encouraging people to have an open discussion with their children about water safety at home and at school.” 

GNWT Welcomes Legislation to Establish Nááts’ihch’oh National Park Reserve

YELLOWKNIFE (May 15, 2014) – Premier Bob McLeod welcomed the introduction of Bill S-5 yesterday, which will formally establish the Nááts’ihch’oh National Park Reserve in the Northwest Territories’ Sahtu Region.

The new national park reserve is the result of almost a decade of planning between the Government of the Northwest Territories, the Sahtu Dene and Métis and the governments of Canada and Yukon. It is an area of spiritual and cultural significance to the people of the Tulita district and an important calving ground for mountain caribou.

These annual awards provide an opportunity to recognize volunteers and volunteer organizations for their outstanding contributions in communities across the territory.

GNWT Launches New Mental Wellness Magazine

YELLOWKNIFE (May 6, 2014) – Minister of Health and Social Services Glen Abernethy today launched Mind & Spirit, a wellness magazine to raise awareness of mental health. The magazine will help inspire people to talk about mental health as it shares success stories of individuals dealing with and overcoming mental health and addiction issues. It also provides information on the services that are available to residents seeking help.
