De Cho Bridge now open to traffic

FORT PROVIDENCE (December 3, 2012) – Traffic is now flowing on the newly opened Deh Cho Bridge near Fort Providence. The Bridge permits 24 hour traffic across the Mackenzie River year round.

Premier Bob McLeod and Transportation Minister David Ramsay, together with community leaders and elders, cut the ceremonial ribbon to officially open the Bridge. Premier McLeod said "this was an important achievement that will benefit the people of the Northwest Territories for generations to come."

New Exemption for Income Assistance Clients

YELLOWKNIFE (December 3, 2012) – A new exemption for Income Assistance clients came into effect December 1, 2012.  Jackson Lafferty, Minister of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE) introduced the change which allows individuals receiving payments under Impact Benefits Agreements (IBA), treaties or land claim settlements to claim an exemption of up to $500 per year for each household member when determining eligibility for Income Assistance (IA).
