YELLOWKNIFE (January 16, 2012) -- Wild fur pelt prices in the Northwest Territories have surged up to 135% at the first wild fur sale of the season hosted by Fur Harvester’s Auction Inc. in North Bay, Ontario on January 7, 2012. 

The Genuine Mackenzie Valley Furs (GMVF) program is a fur marketing service provided by the Government of the Northwest Territories. All proceeds from fur sold at auction through the program go directly to the hunter or trapper.

YELLOWKNIFE (January 16, 2012) -- Souvenir licence plates featuring new designs and the trademarked polar bear shape are now available through Northwest Territories Tourism (NWTT), which has been designated as the exclusive distributor of NWT souvenir plates around the world. The Government of Northwest Territories has designated the organization as the sole distributor of the plate to retailers, and members of the public can purchase individual plates through the NWTT website.

INUVIK (January 16, 2012) - The GNWT has concluded government-to-government meetings with the Gwich'in Tribal Council. All GNWT ministers attended these meetings and discussed issues of mutual interest and concern with Gwich'in leadership. The agenda included land claims implementation, infrastructure projects, building the economy, and devolution.

All GNWT ministers were in attendance to speak to BDRC leaders about issues of mutual interest and concern, including the government-to-government relationship, devolution, energy initiatives, education, housing, and health and social services.
