GNWT receives PDR for the K’asho Got’ine District portion of the Mackenzie Valley Highway

Yellowknife (March 5, 2012) - At a handover ceremony at the Legislative Assembly on Thursday, March 1, Minister of Transportation David Ramsay received the completed project description report (PDR) for the K’asho Got’ine District portion of the planned Mackenzie Valley Highway (Got’ine means people).

Deh Cho Bridge Milestone Reached

Fort Providence (February 28, 2012) – Canada’s largest river, the Mackenzie, has now been spanned. Truss sections connecting the north and south sections of the Deh Cho Bridge came together on Sunday, February 26. Work crews shook hands across the newly connected trusses, marking a crucial milestone in the construction of the bridge.

2011 Student Assessment Results

YELLOWKNIFE (February 28, 2012) – The Northwest Territories results for the 2011 Alberta Achievement Tests (AAT), Functional Grade Levels (FGL) and attendance were released today.

“The results are important indicators that help us track student performance and the success of the education system in the Northwest Territories,” says the Minister of Education, Culture and Employment, Jackson Lafferty. “We are able to spot areas of concern and address them.”

YELLOWKNIFE (February 27, 2012) -- A new website aimed at attracting outside investment and business to the NWT has recently been launched.  The site highlights the territory’s economic potential, the benefits of doing business in the Northwest Territories, and identifies prime areas for investment.

Keeping Traditions Alive through Kayak-Making

TUKTOYAKTUK (February 14, 2012) -- A traditional sealskin kayak constructed by the students of the Mangilaluk School is the newest display at the Tuktoyaktuk airport.

Construction took place over the past several months and local Tuktoyatuk resident Darrel Nasogaluak led the project. Mr. Nasogaluak is a strong supporter of incorporating traditional knowledge into local schools and taught the students how to build the kayak using traditional tools and materials.
