Dates for Community Public Engagement on Cannabis Legalization

YELLOWKNIFE (September 15, 2017) – The Government of the Northwest Territories is hosting public meetings during the month of September to continue gathering input from NWT residents on cannabis legalization.

The input collected at the public engagement sessions will build on the responses already received from the online cannabis survey. Together, the information gathered will help guide the GNWT as we make specific plans, including developing the new legislation that will be needed for cannabis. 

Three Proponents Qualify to Submit Proposal for Tlicho All-Season Road Project

YELLOWKNIFE (September 13, 2017) – The Department of Finance would like to advise that the construction of the Tłįchǫ All-Season Road moved a step closer to reality today with the announcement by Finance Minister Robert C. McLeod that three proponents have qualified for the project, pursuant to the Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) Request for Qualifications.

The three proponents are:

·         Aurora Access Partners

·         NAE Transportation Partners

·         North Star Infrastructure

YELLOWKNIFE (August 24, 2017) – The Government of the Northwest Territories will be hosting public meetings during the month of September in order to continue gathering input from NWT residents on cannabis legalization.

The input collected at the public engagement sessions will build on the approximately 1,000 responses already received from the online cannabis survey. Together, the information gathered will help guide the GNWT as we make specific plans, including developing the new legislation that will be needed for cannabis.

GNWT to hear from residents on "made-in-the-NWT" carbon price

YELLOWKNIFE (July 26, 2017) – The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is seeking public input on how we best to move forward in developing a plan for carbon pricing in the NWT that provides incentives for residents, business and industry to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, while limiting the effects on cost of living and economic development.

This request for input comes as a result of the GNWT’s commitment as a signatory to the Pan-Canadian Framework on Clean Energy and Climate Change to participate in national carbon pricing.

GNWT launches cannabis engagement website and prepares for community meetings

YELLOWKNIFE (July 11, 2017) – NWT residents are being asked to provide their views on how the Northwest Territories will safely regulate cannabis and to comment on proposed principles to guide how the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) addresses cannabis legalization.  Residents can provide their views through a new website launched by the GNWT this week.

GNWT named one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers for fifth consecutive year

Yellowknife (April 4, 2017) –  For the fifth consecutive year, the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has once again been recognized as one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers.

Last week’s announcement from Mediacorp, Canada Inc. cites the creation of the GNWT’s Diversity and Inclusion Unit, along with the ongoing work of the GNWT Advisory Committee on Employability and Aboriginal Employees Advisory Committee as key reasons for the selection.
