January 31, 2011 - The Minister of Finance, J. Michael Miltenberger, will present the 2011-12 Budget Address to the 16th Legislative Assembly on Thursday, February 3, 2011, beginning at approximately 1:30 pm.
Prior to the Budget Address, a lock-up is scheduled for accredited media from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm in the sixth-floor boardroom of the Arthur Laing Building in Yellowknife. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

This year’s discussion centered on two specific options: a carbon tax and a hotel tax. As in the previous roundtables, participants representing business, labour, non-profit, community and Aboriginal government organizations met to discuss the issues and made recommendations to the Minister of Finance, J. Michael Miltenberger.
December 15, 2010 - Results from the 2010 Yellowknife Liquor Service Survey indicate that most residents are satisfied with the convenience, selection and service of the liquor stores, but are dissatisfied with the prices.
The survey’s purpose was to assess satisfaction with the liquor service in Yellowknife based on convenience, selection, service and prices. Yellowknifers were asked for their opinions on the appropriate number and types of liquor stores for the city, and information was requested on their liquor purchases.
October 28, 2010 - Minister of Finance, J. Michael Miltenberger says fiscal arrangements included in the proposed draft Devolution Agreement-in-Principle (AiP) are consistent with what Canadian provinces receive in transfer payments from the federal government.
“No province receiving Equalization payments receives better treatment for their (onshore) resources than is proposed in the draft Devolution AiP,” the Minister advised Members of the 16th Legislative Assembly today.

October 15, 2010 - Minister of Finance, J. Michael Miltenberger, provided a fiscal and economic update to Members of the Legislative Assembly today.
Mr. Speaker, two years ago the world economy experienced a downturn unprecedented since the Great Depression. The turmoil touched everyone, including Canada. The NWT economy shrank in 2009. Employment fell by 5.2 per cent and mineral exploration by 80 per cent.
YELLOWKNIFE (October 15, 2010) - With a period of growth now forecast in the NWT economy, the Government of the Northwest Territories’ fiscal strategy will maintain a tight rein on spending growth while reducing capital investment over time to historical levels.
In his fiscal and economic update to Members of the Legislative Assembly, Minister of Finance J. Michael Miltenberger says the GNWT’s fiscal strategy will see the NWT through uncertain times and return it to a sustainable fiscal path in coming years.
