Mr. Speaker, last year I spoke on the government’s Service Innovation Strategy. Today I would like to provide an update. The Service Innovation Strategy has many parts and is ultimately intended to improve government services to the public, whether online, by phone or in person. It supports our 17th Legislative Assembly goal of “Effective and Efficient Government”.
YELLOWKNIFE (February 5, 2015) – Finance Minister J. Michael Miltenberger presented the 2015-16 Budget today, the last budget for the 17th Legislative Assembly.
INUVIK (January 20, 2015) – A groundbreaking ceremony hosted by Minister of Finance J. Michael Miltenberger in Inuvik celebrated the beginning of construction on the Mackenzie Valley Fibre Line (MVFL) last week.
YELLOWKNIFE (January 15, 2015) – Participants in the 2014 Budget Dialogue expressed satisfaction with the Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT’s) fiscal strategy to manage program expenditure pressures to help fund infrastructure investments and supportive of increasing revenues over the longer term through economic and population growth according to the Budget Dialogue report released today by Minister of Finance J. Michael Miltenberger.
YELLOWKNIFE (November 3, 2014) – Finance Minister J. Michael Miltenberger announced today that the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has signed a contract with Northern Lights General Partnership (Northern Lights) to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the Mackenzie Valley Fibre Link (MVFL) project. The contract calls for construction of the fibre link, over 1,400 kilometres long, to be completed by mid-2016. The contact also includes ongoing operation of the system for a period of 20 years.
YELLOWKNIFE (October 31, 2014) – The Mackenzie Valley Fibre Link took another positive step today with the announcement by Finance Minister J. Michael Miltenberger that the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) and the Gwich’in Tribal Council (GTC) have signed an agreement to allow for the construction and operation of the project on Gwich’in Settlement Lands.
Mr. Speaker, I want to take this opportunity to update Members and the public on our fiscal situation and discuss the ways we are addressing our challenges during the remaining life of this Assembly.
YELLOWKNIFE (October 14, 2014) – The Mackenzie Valley Fiberoptic Link (MVFL) took another positive step today with the announcement by Finance Minister J. Michael Miltenberger that the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) and the K’ahsho Got’ine District have signed an agreement to allow for the construction and operation of the project.
YELLOWKNIFE (October 8, 2014) – Finance Minister J. Michael Miltenberger announced Budget Dialogue 2014: Taking Stock today. The Budget Dialogue will update the public on the Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) fiscal outlook and hear from NWT residents on the GNWT’s financial management and fiscal strategy.
