NWT Labour Force Survey - September 2011

October 21, 2011 - For September 2011, Statistics Canada estimates that 23,800 out of 32,200 residents 15 years of age and older were employed in the Northwest Territories, representing an employment rate  of 73.9%. Overall, Canada’s employment rate stood at 62.6% in September. Since August 2011, employment in the NWT rose by 300 persons.

NWT Labour Force Activity – July 2011

August 8, 2011 - For July 2011, Statistics Canada estimates that 23,200 out of 32,100 residents 15 years of age and older were employed in the Northwest Territories, representing an employment rate of 72.3%. Overall, Canada’s employment rate stood at 62.9% in July.

Compared to the previous month, employment rose by 600 persons with an additional 600 new entrants to the labour force. The gains in labour force and employment were observed mostly for persons 15 to 24 years of age.

Mackenzie Valley Fibre Optics Link Feasibility Study

February 15, 2011 - The feasibility of running a fibre optics cable from the south of the Northwest Territories to Inuvik, and eventually to Tuktoyaktuk, is being studied by the Government of the Northwest Territories.

The Minister of Finance, J. Michael Miltenberger, says the fibre link is important in improving data communications for both the public and private sector in the communities along the route.
