Sport North Federation and the GNWT continue negotiations

YELLOWKNIFE (February 5, 2016) – The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) and Sport North Federation would like to clarify recent media reports regarding a matter that is currently before the courts. 

The GNWT and Sport North have a long history of successful partnerships in delivering sport programming that benefits athletes and communities across the NWT and continue to work as partners, despite having sought resolution of this contractual dispute in the courts.

Call for nominations for the 2016 NWT Outstanding Volunteer Awards

YELLOWKNIFE (January 14, 2016) – Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA), is now accepting nominations for the Northwest Territories (NWT) Outstanding Volunteer Awards. This year marks the 26th year of this award, which recognizes the remarkable contributions volunteers make in communities across the NWT.

Residents are encouraged to nominate an elder, youth, individual, or group volunteer in their communities. This program acknowledges individuals who donate their time to improve the quality of life for NWT residents. 

After Action Review – Civil Emergency Response, 2014 Wildfires

YELLOWKNIFE (October 21, 2015) – The Government of Northwest Territories (GNWT), through Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA), conducted an after action review of the 2014 wildfire season and the civil emergency response to identify recommendations to improve the NWT’s ability to help prepare for and respond to emergency events in the future.

The 2014 wildfire season was the most severe season on record for the Northwest Territories (NWT), resulting in impacts which posed considerable challenges for the NWT emergency response system.

NWT Fire Marshal reminds residents of the dangers of carbon monoxide

YELLOWKNIFE (September 21, 2015) – The NWT Fire Marshal is reminding residents that with the beginning of another winter that all residents should be checking their carbon monoxide safety preparedness.

Carbon monoxide is a gas that is created by the incomplete burning of fuels. These fuels include gasoline, wood, natural gas, propane and oil. All are common and used daily in homes across the NWT.
