Call for 2015 NWT Fire Service Merit Award Nominees

YELLOWKNIFE (September 1, 2015) – The Department of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA) is seeking nominations for the NWT Fire Service Merit Awards.

Based on nominations from community members, fire departments and fire chiefs, the NWT Fire Service Merit Awards honour and recognize individuals and community fire departments for their significant contributions to fire safety and fire service in communities across the Northwest Territories (NWT).

GNWT Participation in Operation Nanook

YELLOWKNIFE (August 24, 2015) – In order to ensure residents of the territory are prepared in the event of a crisis the Government of the Northwest Territories is participating in Operation Nanook to test the government’s emergency management practices and protocols.

Taking place in the Inuvik and Fort Smith areas between August 17 and 28 the exercise is an opportunity to work with partners from community governments, the Government of Canada, the Canadian Forces, and the RCMP to validate the GNWT’s emergency preparedness regime.

Public Safety Update: Reid Lake Fire

YELLOWKNIFE (August 18, 2015) – Fire ZF-014, near Reid Lake, remains active. The GNWT is working to suppress the fire and ensure the safety of the public. The following are updates from the various government agencies involved in the response to this wildfire.

The next Public Safety Update will be issued on Friday, August 21, 2015, unless the situation at the Reid Lake fire advances significantly before then.

YELLOWKNIFE (August 13, 2015) – Fire ZF-014, near Reid Lake, is still a threat. The GNWT is working to suppress the fire and ensure the safety of the public. The following are updates from the various government agencies involved in the response to this wildfire.

The next Public Safety Update will be issued on Monday, August 17, 2015, unless the situation at the Reid Lake fire advances significantly before then.

Tri-party Meetings Focus on Supporting NWT Community Governments

YELLOWKNIFE (June 19, 2015) – On June 15-16, 2015 the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA) hosted the NWT Association of Communities (NWTAC), the Local Government Administrators of the NWT (LGANT), and community government representatives to discuss ongoing partnerships and how we can improve supports for community governments in the Northwest Territories.

NWT delegation promotes MVFL in Europe

YELLOWKNIFE (June 8, 2015) – A delegation from the Northwest Territories will travel to Europe from June 7-12, 2015 to promote the Mackenzie Valley Fibre Link (MVFL) to potential international clients and customers. The delegation includes Premier Bob McLeod, Minister of Finance J. Michael Miltenberger, Minister Robert C. Mcleod, MLA Robert Hawkins, Chair of the Standing Committee on Economic Development and Infrastructure and officials from the federal government and Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT).
