Good Governance Conference

(February 22, 2013) - Mr. Speaker, today I am pleased to speak about the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs’ upcoming Good Governance Conference. This year’s conference theme is “Community Ownership.” The conference will take place at the Explorer Hotel in Yellowknife from February 26 to 28, and 165 participants representing all 33 communities are expected to attend.

Accountability Framework for Community Governments

(February 20, 2013) - Mr. Speaker, since the implementation of the New Deal for NWT Community Governments in 2007, community governments have been in control of their own infrastructure priorities.  MACA has worked closely with the Northwest Territories Association of Communities and the Local Government Administrators of the NWT to develop an Accountability Framework that emphasizes and reinforces the goals of the New Deal initiative and supports the Legislative Assembly’s goal of a strong North built on partnerships.

Department of Municipal and Community Affairs launches new and improved website

YELLOWKNIFE (December 14, 2012) – Today, Robert C. McLeod, Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA) announced the launch of a new website for the department.

“Today, people want quick access to information and services from their government. Our new website provides this and much more,” said Minister McLeod. “The new site will improve MACA’s approach to e-services for programs and includes new features that will help the department better serve the residents of the NWT.”

Launch of the Volunteer Support Initiative

YELLOWKNIFE (November 9, 2012) – Today Robert C. McLeod, Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA) and Minister Responsible for Youth, released an updated strategic plan supporting volunteer development in the Northwest Territories (NWT).

“The Volunteer Support Initiative is a strategy designed to help build the next generation of NWT volunteers” said McLeod.  “We need to continue supporting the great work being done by today’s volunteers and look to the future by building that same spirit in youth”.

NWT Youth Ambassadors selected

YELLOWKNIFE (November 9, 2012) – Forty-three new youth ambassadors and four returning youth mentors from across the Northwest Territories (NWT) have been selected to participate in the 2012-2013 NWT Youth Ambassador Program by the Honourable Robert C. McLeod, Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs.
