YELLOWKNIFE (March 09, 2018) – Premier Bob McLeod released the Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) Open Government Policy, fulfilling a key mandate commitment and demonstrating the government’s continued efforts to become increasingly open, transparent and accountable to Northwest Territories residents.

The Policy establishes a set of Open Government principles, and provides a framework for the development of directives, guidelines and tools that will support and guide departments to implement the principles of Open Government in three key areas:

Good afternoon. I am happy to be here this afternoon to talk about mineral exploration in the Northwest Territories, the importance of responsible resource development to the territorial economy and why all of this should matter to you.

Mr. Speaker, the Government of the Northwest Territories has made a commitment to support the Intergovernmental Council towards implementation of the vision of cooperative and collaborative management of lands and resources, as set out in the Lands and Resources Devolution Agreement.I am pleased to report that the Fourth Annual Meeting of the Intergovernmental Council on Land and Resource Management took place on Friday, December 15^th, 2017 here in Yellowknife.

Thank you for inviting me to appear before you today. I am pleased to be able to share the Northwest Territories’ perspective on the Arctic and some of the priorities of our government.

YELLOWKNIFE (February 9, 2018) – Twenty-three northerners were awarded the Governor General of Canada’s Corrections Exemplary Service Medal yesterday, the highest honour for corrections services professionals in Canada.

Northwest Territories corrections service professionals from Yellowknife, Hay River, and Fort Smith received the Governor General medal for distinguished service at a reception yesterday evening.

The Honourable Margaret Thom, Commissioner of the Northwest Territories presented the medals.

Mr. Speaker, I’d like to welcome Members back to the Legislative Assembly as we continue our work to create a better future for the people of the Northwest Territories.

Time is passing quickly, Mr. Speaker, and we are past the half-way point in the mandate of the 18^th Legislative Assembly. There are just 20 months left until the end of our term and there is still a lot of important work for us to do.

YELLOWKNIFE (February 7, 2018) – A delegation of Northwest Territories leaders took part in a successful week of meetings and events while representing the NWT at the 2018 Mineral Exploration Round Up conference held in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Good Morning.  I am happy to be back in Ottawa and here this morning as a participant in this panel with my fellow Northern Premiers, Premier Silver and Premier Quassa and also joined by Lieutenant Governor Mallot and Minister Frederiksen.

Leading development in the North American Arctic is an important conversation and I am glad to see the discussions start to take place in jurisdictions outside of Canada’s northern borders. 

OTTAWA (February 1, 2018) – Premier Bob McLeod, accompanied by Minister Glen Abernethy, was in Ottawa to present the Arctic Indigenous Wellness Foundation with the 2017 Arctic Inspiration Prize.
