NWT Premier and Cabinet Ready to Get to Work

November 7, 2011 - Premier Bob McLeod and the Cabinet of the 17th Legislative Assembly held a day-long planning retreat at the Sah Naji Kwe Lodge near Behchoko on Nov. 3, 2011. Discussions included approaches to engaging with NWT Aboriginal leaders, the timeline around establishing a Cabinet agenda for implementing the priorities of the 17th Legislative Assembly, improving government communications, Devolution and managing relations with federal, provincial and territorial governments.

Premier McLeod Announces Ministerial Portfolios

November 2, 2011 - Promising a renewed focus on working together to promote the interests of all the people of the Northwest Territories (NWT), Premier Bob McLeod today announced portfolio assignments for the recently chosen Cabinet.

“We have challenges and opportunities ahead of us,” said Premier McLeod. “The people of the NWT are relying on us to work together to seize opportunities and resolve issues. MLAs have selected a Cabinet with a good balance of experienced and new Ministers who will bring their skills and energy to get the job done.”

Vince Sharpe Receives Congratulations from GNWT

November 1, 2011 - Premier Bob McLeod, together with Inuvik MLAs Robert C. McLeod and Alfred Moses, is today congratulating Inuvik’s Vince Sharpe for receiving the Governor General’s Medal of Bravery.

Mr. Sharpe received the award Friday, Oct. 28, from His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston in recognition for his actions to rescue two occupants from a burning trailer home, in Inuvik.

Premier says Will for Consensus is Strong

October 28, 2011 - Premier Bob McLeod says the Legislative Assembly will be the forum in which elected leaders can find and reach consensus for the good of the NWT.

In his first statement to the 17th Legislative Assembly as Premier, Mr. McLeod said that while challenges will be significant, the collective will to make things better for the NWT residents is strong.

“I am encouraged by the good will shown by Members and Aboriginal Leaders, to find better ways of working together,” he said.

Premier Bob McLeod Building Consensus

October 28, 2011 - Premier Bob McLeod addresses the 17th Assembly for the first time as Premier.

Mr. Speaker, I rise today, on behalf of all Members of Cabinet, to once again congratulate and thank all Members of this House.  We are grateful for and humbled by your support, and we pledge to work hard, in cooperation with all Members, in the service of all of the people and communities of the Northwest Territories.

Premier and Cabinet take the Oath of Office

October 27, 2011 - Premier Bob McLeod, and Ministers Michael Miltenberger, Jackson Lafferty, Tom Beaulieu, Glen Abernethy, David Ramsay, and Robert C. McLeod were officially sworn in today by Commissioner Tuccaro after being elected by their peers in yesterday’s elections.

Formal motions to ratify the appointments to the Executive Council were also brought forward in the House and passed by Members of the 17th Legislative Assembly.
