Premier Speaks on Devolution to the House

August 26, 2011 - Premier Floyd Roland address the House with an update on the work that the GNWT has been undertaking in relation to Devolution.

Mr. Speaker, I appreciate the opportunity to provide Members of this Assembly with an update on the work our government has been undertaking related to the devolution of public lands and resources from the Government of Canada to the Government of the Northwest Territories.

Premier Offers Condolences to 6560 Victims and on the Passing of Jack Layton

August 22, 2011 - Premier Floyd Roland made two official statements at the beginning of this afternoon’s session of the Legislative Assembly regarding the tragic events in Resolute Bay this weekend and the passing of Jack Layton.

Mr. Speaker, on behalf of this 16th Assembly, our Government and all residents of the Northwest Territories I offer condolences today to those individuals and families who are mourning the loss of colleagues, friends, relatives and loved ones as a result of this weekend’s tragic crash of First Air Flight 6560 near Resolute Bay.

Minister Remarks on Youth Forum

August 19, 2011 - Premier Floyd Roland speaks about the benefits of working with all walks of life, especially the youth, while building the 'Forging our Future' report.

Mr. Speaker, in July 2009, the Northern Leaders’ Forum was created as a means for all leaders in the NWT to work collectively to advance the interests of our Territory and its residents.

Premier Presents Northwest Territories Diamonds to Their Royal Highnesses

July 5, 2011 - Northwest Territories (NWT) Diamonds will serve to commemorate the 2011 visit of Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to the NWT and Canada.  In Yellowknife, this afternoon, NWT Premier Floyd K. Roland presented the Royal couple with northern-mined diamonds on behalf of the Territory and its people. 

Western Premiers celebrate National Aboriginal Day

June 22, 2011 - Canada’s Western Premiers celebrated National Aboriginal Day in Fort Simpson, Northwest Territories yesterday by participating in a variety of community and cultural activities honouring the Territory’s rich Aboriginal heritage and traditions.

Premiers enjoyed an aerial tour of the world-renowned Nahanni National Park, flying over iconic landmarks such as the Nahanni River, Virginia Falls, Horn Plateau and the Mackenzie Mountains.
