Fire Ban in Effect Queen Elizabeth Territorial Park (Fort Smith)

Due to current weather conditions the Town of Fort Smith has implemented a fire ban on open air fires within municipal boundaries. Effective immediately and until further notice, a fire ban is now also in place for the Queen Elizabeth Territorial Park.

Camp stoves, enclosed BBQs and propane-fueled cooking and heating devices are permitted for use in NWT Parks. They must be placed within regulation fire pits and should not emit a flame more than 0.5 metres in diameter and 0.5 metres in height.

Innovative new women’s correctional unit opens in Fort Smith

The Government of the Northwest Territories is committed to providing culturally appropriate, responsive and efficient corrections services in partnership with our communities. Today, the Minister of Justice, Louis Sebert, and the Minister of Infrastructure, Wally Schumann, celebrated the opening of the new corrections unit for women with the people of Fort Smith.

 

This new unit was designed with the current and future needs of female offenders in mind and will support culturally appropriate programs and activities.

 

Intergovernmental Meeting between Salt River First Nation and GNWT

Fort Smith (April 11, 2019) – Cabinet Members of the 18th Legislative Assembly, Premier Bob McLeod, Minister Caroline Cochrane and Minister Wally Schumann met with the Salt River First Nation Chief Frieda Martselos, Council members Melvin Fortier, Ray Tourangeau, Chris Hunter and Council members-elect Warren Gagnon and Warren Sikyea in Fort Smith on Monday, April 8th, 2019.
