Nunavut artifacts moving to Winnipeg

YELLOWKNIFE (February 17, 2016) – For the last month, the Winnipeg Art Gallery (WAG), in partnership with the Government of Nunavut and assisted by the GNWT, has been  carefully packing nearly 8,000 Nunavut artifacts at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre (PWNHC).

The artifacts will travel to the Winnipeg Art Gallery under a loan agreement with the Government of Nunavut. These art pieces are the first significant group of Nunavut objects to be removed from the PWNHC to be transferred to the Government of Nunavut’s (GN) care.

Yellowknife filmmakers take France by storm

YELLOWKNIFE (February 11, 2016) – The Northwest Territories (NWT) film industry is receiving major international exposure at one of the world’s most prestigious short film festivals thanks to the work and talents of two of its longtime ambassadors.

Yellowknife filmmakers Pablo Saravanja and Jay Bulckaert of the Artless Collective presented Conibear — an original horror short — to a packed audience at the Clermont-Ferrand International Film Festival last night.

CEO Appointed for Territorial Health and Social Services Authority

YELLOWKNIFE (February 9, 2016) – Health and Social Services minister Glen Abernethy would like to announce that Sue Cullen will accept the appointment of Chief Executive Officer for the new Territorial Health and Social Services Authority (THSSA).

“Our new health and social services authority will help us improve care across our Territory,” said Abernethy. “I am happy to welcome Sue Cullen, who brings a wealth of Northern and healthcare experience and will be a strong leader through the changes required to implement the new Authority.”

GNWT looks to work with MLAs to address fiscal challenge

Sport North Federation and the GNWT continue negotiations

YELLOWKNIFE (February 5, 2016) – The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) and Sport North Federation would like to clarify recent media reports regarding a matter that is currently before the courts. 

The GNWT and Sport North have a long history of successful partnerships in delivering sport programming that benefits athletes and communities across the NWT and continue to work as partners, despite having sought resolution of this contractual dispute in the courts.
