GNWT launches cannabis engagement website and prepares for community meetings

YELLOWKNIFE (July 11, 2017) – NWT residents are being asked to provide their views on how the Northwest Territories will safely regulate cannabis and to comment on proposed principles to guide how the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) addresses cannabis legalization.  Residents can provide their views through a new website launched by the GNWT this week.

New Geophysical Reports provide insight into mineral potential of Slave Geological Province

YELLOWKNIFE (June 14, 2017) – Two airborne geophysical surveys will provide additional insight for prospectors and mineral development companies interested in exploration in the Slave Geological Province of the Northwest Territories (NWT). The studies, developed by the Northwest Territories Geological Survey (NTGS), provide detailed airborne magnetic and electromagnetic survey data from the promising region.

H&SS Releases first of a 5-part Video series to spread awareness about the dangers of opioid misuse and abuse

YELLOWKNIFE (June 5, 2017) – The Department of Health and Social Services has released the first of a 5-part video series to spread awareness about the dangers of opioid misuse and abuse. The videos are part of a larger campaign launched across the Northwest Territories after a string of opioid-related overdoses in November of 2016.

YELLOWKNIFE (May 15, 2017) – Louis Sebert, Minister Responsible for Public Engagement and Transparency, wants to hear from residents about how the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) can be more open.

The public is invited to contribute to the development of an Open Government policy and how the GNWT engages with you.

Call for Applications for the 2017 NGO Stabilization Fund

YELLOWKNIFE (April 24, 2017) - Today, the Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA), Caroline Cochrane, announced the annual call for applications for the 2017 NGO Stabilization Fund.

The NGO Stabilization Fund provides special funding to help NGOs that deliver critical GNWT-funded programs or services to the public to stabilize or develop their capacity to manage programs and services.

Motor Vehicle fines to increase on April 1, 2017

YELLOWKNIFE (March 28, 2017) – On April 1st, the Department of Transportation will be increasing 229 fines under the Northwest Territories Motor Vehicles Act regulations.

The decision comes in an effort to make territorial roads safer for motorists, pedestrians and other users of the highway system.  Some of the violations that will result in an increased penalty include the following:
