Survey reveals increase in Mackenzie bison population

YELLOWKNIFE (September 9, 2016) – A 2016 survey of the Mackenzie bison population indicates a slight increase in the number of animals with an estimate of 850 in 2016 compared to the estimate of 700 in 2013.

The survey was conducted by Environment and Natural Resources staff and five observers from Fort Providence between February 20 and March 6, 2016. Weather conditions ranged from good to excellent for counting wildlife from the air.

The next population survey for the Mackenzie bison population is planned for 2019.

NWT Health and Social Services Leadership Council - Board Meeting Announcement

YELLOWKNIFE (September 7, 2016) – The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Leadership Council, which governs the affairs of the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority, is holding a board meeting.

Meetings of the board are open to the public. The meeting will be held at the Explorer Hotel – Janvier Room in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories on September 12, 2015 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Members of the public can attend in person or via teleconference (details below).

Critical incident update

YELLOWKNIFE (September 2, 2016) - Minister of Health and Social Services Glen Abernethy issued the following update regarding an external investigation into a critical incident:

“As committed last week, I am pleased to provide additional details regarding an external investigation. I would like to announce that Dr. Marlyn Cook will be conducting a critical incident investigation. I am confident in Dr. Cook’s abilities to provide a complete and fair investigation.”

Patient experience questionnaire

YELLOWKNIFE (August 31, 2016) – The Department of Health and Social Services is seeking public feedback on the Northwest Territories (NWT) health care system in the form of a patient experience questionnaire.

The 10-minute questionnaire is now available online at www.hss.gov.nt.ca, or at any health care facility across the NWT until October 15, 2016.

Please take the time to submit feedback on patient services you have received and help make a difference in the NWT health care system.

Road and Campground Guide Connects Travellers to Information

YELLOWKNIFE (May 6, 2016) - A targeted Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) marketing initiative is putting 30,000 pocket-sized guides to NWT parks and campgrounds into the hands of identified Alberta RV-ers and campers this week.

With a downswing in the economy and the lower Canadian dollar, it is anticipated that many Albertans will opt for road holidays within Canada this summer.  The NWT’s world-class parks and campgrounds offer a unique and attractive holiday destination.

YELLOWKNIFE (August 27, 2013) — Canada's energy and mines ministers today agreed to continue critical work to enhance Canada's position as a global energy and mining leader. The meeting was co-chaired by the Honourable Joe Oliver, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, and the Honourable David Ramsay, Northwest Territories’ Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment.
