YELLOWKNIFE (March 27, 2017) - Take notice that the Certified Assessment Roll, First Revision (2016 Assessment for 2017 Taxation) for the General Taxation Area of the Northwest Territories (NWT) can be inspected at the office of the Director of Assessment, Department of Municipal and Community Affairs, Government of the Northwest Territories, 5th floor, Northwest Tower, Yellowknife, NWT. 

Department of Transportation Announces the Release of the 2015 Northwest Territories Traffic Collision Facts and the 2016-2016 Annual Report of Registrar of Motor Vehicles

YELLOWKNIFE (March 8, 2017) – The Department of Transportation (DOT) would like to announce the release of the 2015 Northwest Territories Traffic Collision Facts, as well as the 2015/2016 Annual Report of Registrar of Motor Vehicles.

Call for Nominations for the 2017 NWT Outstanding Volunteer Awards

YELLOWKNIFE (February 10, 2017) - Today, Caroline Cochrane, Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA), announced the annual notice of the nomination deadline for the Northwest Territories (NWT) Outstanding Volunteer Awards. This year marks the 26th year of this award, which recognizes and celebrates the remarkable contributions volunteers make in communities across the NWT.

Half-Masting – To mark the tragic events that took place in the City of Québec

YELLOWKNIFE (January 31, 2017) — Flags of the Northwest Territories on all Government of the Northwest Territories’ buildings will be flown at half-mast effective immediately until further notice to mark the tragic events that took place in the City of Québec.  You may wish to consider following suit.

The federal Department of Canadian Heritage has advised that the Canadian flag on all Government of Canada buildings and establishments across Canada, including the Peace Tower in Ottawa, will also be flown at half-mast.  

Frank Channel Bridge Rehabilitation

YELLOWKNIFE (January 25, 2017) – Starting on or about May 1, 2017  the Department of Transportation (DOT) will be undertaking a major rehabilitation of the Frank Channel Bridge, located at km 243.8 on the Yellowknife Highway (Highway 3).

The bridge is the only crossing over the Frank Channel, meaning work will continue as traffic passes, with controlled delays.  Construction will take place between May and October each year of 2017 and 2018.

Mitigation Work Starting on Ingraham Trail Mine Sites

YELLOWKNIFE (December 14, 2016) – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources advises work to mitigate risk at the Ptarmigan Mine, Tom and Tin Mines on the Ingraham Trail starts this week.

Mobilization of drill and other equipment to the abandoned mine sites and construction of fencing around the sites is set to start on January 4, 2017. Fencing is being installed at the three mine sites to restrict public access for safety reasons.

This work is expected to be completed by March 31, 2017.

Public Engagement on the Review of the Fire Prevention Act

YELLOWKNIFE (December 7, 2016) - The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has committed to updating the Fire Prevention Act. The Department of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA) has completed extensive research to address issues and concerns and is now conducting stakeholder and public engagement from December 5, 2016 to March 5, 2017.
