WHITEHORSE  (June 7, 2013)—Following a decision from the Arctic Winter Games International Committee (AWGIC), the ministers responsible for sport in Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut, along with the Lieutenant Governor of Alaska, will work together to ensure that the sports eliminated from the 2016 Arctic Winter Games (AWG) in Greenland will have an alternate multi-sport venue.

HAY RIVER (June 7, 2013) – The Government of Northwest Territories has set aside $2.5 million dollars for needed repairs at the Hay River Airport.

The Hay River Airport is one of six hub airports in the Northwest Territories (NWT). It is also an important alternate runway, particularly for the Yellowknife airport. Since 2012, runway conditions at the airport have been viewed by air carriers as no longer viable for their high speed jet traffic, requiring carriers to use other alternates in their flight plans.

YELLOWKNIFE (June 7, 2013) – The GNWT is on track to reduce the use of heating fuel in its buildings by 13.5 million litres by the end of 2013/14. This decreases greenhouse-gas emissions by more than 36,000 tons since the government first started tracking its fuel and greenhouse gas reductions in 2007.
