March 2, 2011 - During Aboriginal Languages Month, residents across the Northwest Territories are encouraged to celebrate our Aboriginal languages and culture by spending time with elders and participating in community events.

“Languages are about identity – who we are and how we understand and interact with each other,” says Minister of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE), Jackson Lafferty. “Promoting Aboriginal languages encourages the promotion of healthy lifestyles, and family and cultural values.”

March 1, 2011 - On the first day of Aboriginal Languages Month, the Minister of Education, Culture and Employment highlighted the work the GNWT is doing to strengthen Aboriginal Languages.
 

February 24, 2011 - Nominations for the 2011 Education Hall of Fame are now being accepted. This year, one inductee from each region in the territory and a Minister’s Choice Award will be awarded, for a total of seven inductees.

February 24, 2011 - The Department of Education, Culture and Employment is now accepting nominations for inductions into the Education Hall of Fame.
 

February 21, 2011 - During the Aboriginal Student Achievement Minister’s Regional Forums, attendance has been identified as a concern, and to highlight the connection between attendance and student development and growth, the theme for this year’s Education Week, February 21-25, is: “Good Attendance. Good Education. Good Job.”

February 18, 2011 - The Minister of Education, Culture and Employment, Jackson Lafferty, recognized the upcoming Education Week, today in Session.
 

February 18, 2011 - In the Legislative Assembly today, the Minister of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE), Jackson Lafferty, joined Members of the Legislative Assembly in calling on the Government of Canada to announce a successor strategy to the highly successful Aboriginal Skills and Employment Partnership (ASEP) program.

February 17, 2011 - During Session, the Minister of Education, Culture, and Employment, Jackson Lafferty, announced the launch of the Minister’s Cultural Circle.
 

February 17, 2011 - Today during Session, the Minister of Education, Culture and Employment, Jackson Lafferty, launched the Minister’s Cultural Circle to recognize those who contribute to preserving and promoting cultures and heritage in the NWT.

February 17, 2011 - February 21-27 is Heritage Week, and northern cultural and heritage organizations are celebrating by hosting several events and programs across the territory. To kick off the Week, the 2011 Pan-Territorial Heritage Fair is being held February 17 and 18 at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre.
