April 28, 2011 - Language and culture revitalization was the focus of the South Slave Aboriginal Student Achievement (ASA) Minister’s Regional Forum on Hay River’s K’atlo’deeche First Nation Reserve, April 5 to 7, 2011.

This was the fifth in a series of forums hosted by the Minister of Education, Culture and Employment, Jackson Lafferty, to hear from community and youth representatives, educators and Aboriginal governments. Feedback from the forums will help direct development of territorial, as well as community specific, education plans.

April 8, 2011 - Beginning this fall, the South Slave region will offer the Aboriginal Language and Culture Instructor Program (ALCIP) on the K’atlodeeche First Nation Reserve.

April 4, 2011 - The South Slave Minister’s Regional Forum on Aboriginal Student Achievement (ASA) begins April 5 in Hay River. Aboriginal government, community and youth representatives, alongside educators and school principals from each community within the South Slave, will talk with the Minister of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE), Jackson Lafferty, about Aboriginal student achievement.

March 9, 2011 - During the Rendez-vous de la francophonie (French Language Weeks), from March 4 to 20, 2011, the Department of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE) encourages Northwest Territories residents to celebrate French language and culture.

March 3, 2011 - The Minister of the NWT Housing Corporation provided an update to Members on the work of the NWTHC and ECE in improving the assessment process for public housing rents.
 

March 2, 2011 - During Aboriginal Languages Month, residents across the Northwest Territories are encouraged to celebrate our Aboriginal languages and culture by spending time with elders and participating in community events.

“Languages are about identity – who we are and how we understand and interact with each other,” says Minister of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE), Jackson Lafferty. “Promoting Aboriginal languages encourages the promotion of healthy lifestyles, and family and cultural values.”

March 1, 2011 - On the first day of Aboriginal Languages Month, the Minister of Education, Culture and Employment highlighted the work the GNWT is doing to strengthen Aboriginal Languages.
 

February 24, 2011 - Nominations for the 2011 Education Hall of Fame are now being accepted. This year, one inductee from each region in the territory and a Minister’s Choice Award will be awarded, for a total of seven inductees.

February 24, 2011 - The Department of Education, Culture and Employment is now accepting nominations for inductions into the Education Hall of Fame.
