NWT Premier to attend the Commemorative Service for the passing of Nelson Mandela

YELLOWKNIFE (December 8, 2013) - Premier Bob McLeod will travel to South Africa this week to pay his final respects to His Excellency Nelson Mandela, former President of the Republic of South Africa, as part of the Canadian delegation being led by Prime Minister Stephen Harper. The Premier will represent the Northwest Territories at the commemorative service being held in Johannesburg on December 10 and Mr. Mandela's lying in State in Pretoria on December 11.

Post-Devolution Public Service Team

YELLOWKNIFE (December 6, 2013) – The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) confirmed today that 120 employees of the federal Department of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada (AANDC) have accepted offers of employment with the GNWT to provide the experience and knowledge required to administer public land and resources after devolution. The jobs will begin on April 1, 2014.

New Occupational Health and Safety Training Program for GNWT Employees

YELLOWKNIFE (November 28, 2013) – A new comprehensive occupational health and safety training program will enhance workplace safety and well-being for all GNWT employees.  The GNWT has partnered with the Northern Safety Association, a non-profit organization dedicated to safer northern workplaces, to provide training to employees. 

NWT Collaboration to Reduce Drownings Receives National Recognition

YELLOWKNIFE (November 27, 2013) – The GNWT’s collaborative approach to addressing the large number of preventable drownings has been recognized with the Award for Collaborative Excellence from the Canadian Collaborative Centres for Injury Prevention (CCCIP). The award is given every two years to recognize national leadership in injury prevention collaboration.
