HAY RIVER (January 21, 2014) – Recommendations to make Hay River Territorial Park beach safer have been released by the Lifesaving Society of Alberta and the Northwest Territories. The Lifesaving Society performed a comprehensive aquatic safety audit on the unsupervised waterfront beach at Hay River Territorial Park in the summer of 2013. The purpose of the audit was to analyze and provide recommendations to maximize the safety of beach users.

YELLOWKNIFE (January 21, 2014) – The Mackenzie Valley Fibre Link (MVFL) moves closer to reality with the announcement today by Finance Minister J. Michael Miltenberger that three proponents have been shortlisted, pursuant to the GNWT’s Request For Qualifications on the project.

YELLOWKNIFE (January 13, 2014) – The final report of Budget Dialogue 2013 (Budget Dialogue 2013 Results here) confirms the GNWT’s overall approach to maximizing the benefits of resource revenues for present and future NWT residents by investing in long-term infrastructure, repaying debt, and investing money in the Heritage Fund.

YELLOWKNIFE (January 13, 2014) – The Department of Justice has launched a new online Corporate Registries service.

The Corporate Registries Online System (CROS) will provide easy, 24-hour-a-day access to basic information about registered businesses and non-profit societies, such as legal name, status and the type of business for no charge.

YELLOWKNIFE (January 10, 2014) – The contract for the Northwest Territories’ largest infrastructure project is to be awarded to a company based in the territory. A notification of acceptance and authorization to begin construction of the Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk all-weather highway has been issued to EGT-Northwind Ltd., with a formal signing of the $229.3 million contract to follow.

Construction of the highway is expected to be completed by 2018. Construction will take place primarily in the winter months to protect the underlying permafrost.
