Hay River Beach Audit Report Released; GNWT outlines measures being taken to improve beach safety

HAY RIVER (January 21, 2014)Recommendations to make Hay River Territorial Park beach safer have been released by the Lifesaving Society of Alberta and the Northwest Territories. The Lifesaving Society performed a comprehensive aquatic safety audit on the unsupervised waterfront beach at Hay River Territorial Park in the summer of 2013. The purpose of the audit was to analyze and provide recommendations to maximize the safety of beach users.

Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk Highway Construction Contract Awarded

YELLOWKNIFE (January 10, 2014) – The contract for the Northwest Territories’ largest infrastructure project is to be awarded to a company based in the territory. A notification of acceptance and authorization to begin construction of the Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk all-weather highway has been issued to EGT-Northwind Ltd., with a formal signing of the $229.3 million contract to follow.

Construction of the highway is expected to be completed by 2018. Construction will take place primarily in the winter months to protect the underlying permafrost.
