Government of the Northwest Territories donates to typhoon relief

YELLOWKNIFE (November 15, 2013) – The Government of the Northwest Territories is joining the Government of Canada and other provinces and territories in responding to the typhoon-devastated Philippines by stepping up to help the island nation in its efforts to care for survivors.

To assist with humanitarian relief efforts, the Government of the NWT will contribute $25,000 to the Canadian Red Cross.

Grand Opening of New Business Incentive Policy Office in Hay River

HAY RIVER (November 8, 2013) – The Business Incentive Policy office has now officially moved to Hay River from Yellowknife, creating four jobs in the community and marking an important move in the decentralization of jobs from Headquarters to other Northwest Territories communities.

Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment David Ramsay greeted the grand opening attendees today and joined Kim Wilkins, new office manager, in cutting the ribbon at the new office location, located on the second floor of the Royal Bank building.

YELLOWKNIFE (November 5, 2013) – As part of their ongoing collaboration, representatives of the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) Francophone Affairs Secretariat and the Fédération franco-ténoise (FFT) will be travelling to four NWT communities to inform residents about the GNWT’s Strategic Plan on French language communications and services and to meet with them on community priorities.

Pan-Territorial Permafrost Workshop to be held in Yellowknife

Yellowknife (November 4, 2013) – Decision-makers from all three territories will meet with permafrost researchers and other experts in Yellowknife on November 5-7 to share knowledge, network and explore ways to deal with climate change impacts on permafrost in Canada’s North.

The main goal of the Pan-Territorial Permafrost Workshop is to improve peoples’ understanding of permafrost in Northern communities and ensure their research and infrastructure needs are being met.

Premier Bob McLeod announces changes to the Cabinet

YELLOWKNIFE (October 30, 2013) – Premier Bob McLeod today announced changes to the Executive Council that will help it continue to achieve success in creating a strong, prosperous territory providing jobs and opportunities for all Northwest Territories residents. The changes will help also prepare the Cabinet for additional responsibilities being transferred to the Government of the Northwest Territories through Devolution.
