The Government of the Northwest Territories announced mandate highlights today in the first Premier’s Territorial Address.

The Address provided a formal opportunity for the Premier and Ministers to share updates on the GNWT’s progress toward its Mandate, reflect on the previous year, and speak to the government’s vision and priorities for the year ahead. It also provides an opportunity to acknowledge key partners who have played a vital role in this important work.  Ministers in attendance were available to speak with members of the media on any portfolio questions.

Good afternoon, and thank you for attending the first Premier’s Territorial Address.

This 20th Legislative Assembly is just over a year old, and in that time, we’ve seen triumphs and tragedies, new opportunities, and familiar challenges. Political shifts at home and abroad are forcing us to reassess long-held assumptions about how the world works. Today, we take stock of the past year, look ahead to the future, and shed light on governance in the Northwest Territories.

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is now accepting funding applications for the 2025 Anti-Poverty Fund. This annual $1.75 million fund supports poverty reduction initiatives in communities across the NWT.

Who Can Apply:

• NWT Indigenous governments and community governing authorities
• Non-governmental organizations demonstrating partnership or support from an Indigenous or community governing authority.

Ontario hosts fall meeting of Canada's Premiers

Premier R.J. Simpson is announcing changes to the senior management team of the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT).

Eleanor Young, President of Housing NWT, will be retiring after a distinguished career in public service. Ms. Young has been a driving force in housing policy and program delivery across the territory, with a strong focus on building community capacity. Throughout her career, she prioritized establishing positive relationships with Indigenous and community governments to better support residents across the Northwest Territories.

In response to the growing challenge of homelessness and limited shelter capacity in Yellowknife, the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has introduced an On-the-Land Camp initiative. This new initiative will offer safe, stable accommodations and essential support services for people experiencing homelessness, providing much-needed support as we enter winter.
