Norman Wells, le 28 août 2018 – Le lundi 27 août, à Norman Wells, les résidents du Sahtú ont souligné l’ouverture officielle du Centre régional de santé et de services sociaux Sahtú Got'iné et du centre de soins de longue durée Sahtú Dene Nechá Kǫ́.

In advance of the meeting in Halifax of Provincial and Territorial Ministers Responsible for Social Services, health and social services ministers from Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut met to discuss key areas of strategic collaboration to improve outcomes in health and social services across the North.

Attending the meeting were NWT Minister of Health and Social Services Glen Abernethy, Nunavut Minister of Health Pat Angnakak, Nunavut Minister of Family Services Elisapee Sheutiapik, and Yukon Minister of Health and Social Services Pauline Frost.

(YELLOWKNIFE, July 31, 2018) – Glen Abernethy, Minister of Health and Social Services, announced the 14 schools chosen to receive awards as part of the 2017-2018 Drop the Pop campaign.

This year, 48 schools in the Northwest Territories participated in “Drop the Pop,” using funding provided by the Government of the Northwest Territories to promote healthy food and beverage choices. The winning schools will be awarded prizes ranging from $800 – $1,500 in recognition of their Drop the Pop activities.

YELLOWKNIFE (July 6, 2018) – The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) and the Northwest Territories Medical Association (NWTMA) are pleased to announce that they have ratified an agreement on a contract for physician services in the Northwest Territories. The previous contract between the GNWT and the NWTMA expired on March 31, 2016. 

Discussions for a new agreement began in January 2016 and ended in May 2018 when both sides reached an agreement in principle.  The final agreement was ratified by both parties in early June 2018.

YELLOWKNIFE (June 28, 2018) – The Department of Health and Social Services would like to inform residents of the Northwest Territories that, on May 9, 2018, a laptop that contained health information was stolen from a locked vehicle in the Ottawa area. The information was collected under the Public Health Act and contained patient names, health care card numbers, dates of birth, health diseases/conditions, and communities of residence. Although the device had strong password protection, the device was not encrypted.

YELLOWKNIFE (June 27, 2018) – The Minister of Health and Social Services, Glen Abernethy, is seeking nominations for four vacancies on the Regional Wellness Councils for the Beaufort-Delta, Hay River and Yellowknife.

The role of the Regional Wellness Council is to ensure residents from across the Northwest Territories have an opportunity to provide input into the territorial health and social services system. The councils help inform policy and programming decisions across the territory.

FORT RESOLUTION, NT (June12, 2018) – Residents celebrated the official opening of the Denı́nu Kų́ę́ Health and Social Services Centre today,  in Fort Resolution.

The new Health and Social Services Centre is a state-of-the-art facility that for the first time brings together health, social services, and home care into the same building. Providing these services to residents of Fort Resolution in one location will improve patient care in the community.

YELLOWKNIFE (May 31, 2018) – With the new Stanton Hospital now more than 75 per cent complete, the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has signed a lease agreement with Stanton Ventura Inc. to accommodate tenants in the redeveloped existing Stanton Hospital.

Renovations will begin in summer 2019 after patients are moved into the new Stanton Territorial Hospital. The existing hospital will be re-purposed to house:
