Mr. Speaker, last fall, the Auditor General released its report on housing in the Northwest Territories. This was a call to action, and we are answering it. Staff and leadership remain committed to transparency and view the audit findings as an opportunity to improve the suitability, accessibility, and affordability of housing across the territory.

New Housing and Child Care Through Rockhill Development and Opportunities from Hilltop Demolition

New Partnership in Fort Good Hope Supports Community-Led Housing and Trades Training

The Government of the Northwest Territories, through Housing NWT, is partnering with Ne’rahten Development Ltd., the business arm of the Yamoga Land Corporation, to support the K’áhsho Got’ı̨nę Trades Centre in Fort Good Hope. This partnership will help improve housing conditions in the Sahtu region by building local trades capacity and supporting community-led housing solutions. It also helps address regional housing needs while strengthening the local economy.

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) invites all residents to help with renaming two Housing Northwest Territories  Buildings used for social housing in Yellowknife.

This building includes 50 units of social housing: 25 barrier-free for seniors, 25 for small families, and ground-floor access to the North Slave District Office and Yellowknife Housing Authority Office.

Housing NWT Signs Memorandum of Agreement on Housing with Acho Dene Koe First Nation to Strengthen Partnership and Improve Housing Planning in Echaot’l Koe

The Acho Dene Koe First Nation (ADK FN) Chief Eugene Hope and Minister Responsible for Housing Northwest Territories (Housing NWT) Honourable Lucy Kuptana have signed a Memorandum of Agreement on housing between ADK FN and the Government of the Northwest Territories.

This Memorandum of Agreement formalizes cooperation between Housing NWT and ADK FN. This agreement builds on past partnerships to guide joint work on housing priorities. 

New data products announced at Roundup strengthen mineral exploration in NWT

Two new, high-value data products are now available through the Northwest Territories Geological Survey (NTGS), offering a level of information that has never been accessible in the Northwest Territories. The Permafrost Database Project and the Pine Point Geophysical Survey will directly support mineral exploration, research and land-use planning across the territory.

AME Roundup attendees are invited to connect with NTGS staff at the NWT booth on the tradeshow floor for demonstrations of the new datasets and to learn more about how they can be used to advance exploration.
