Government of the Northwest Territories Participation in Operation NANOOK-TATIGIIT 2018

YELLOWKNIFE (September 24, 2018) - The Northwest Territories Emergency Management Organization (NWT EMO) is coordinating Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) participation in OPERATION NANOOK-TATIGIIT 2018 (Op Nanook), an annual Canadian Forces live exercise. This year, the exercises are scheduled to take place September 24 – 28, 2018 in the North Slave Region.

Call for Applications for the 2018-2019 Youth Ambassador Program

YELLOWKNIFE (June 19, 2018) – The Department of Municipal and Community Affairs is now accepting applications for the 2018-2019 Northwest Territories (NWT) Youth Ambassador Program. The program provides NWT youth with opportunities to build leadership skills through participation at special events and volunteer assignments.  In the past, NWT Youth Ambassadors have attended the Arctic Winter Games, Canada Winter Games, Canada Summer Games and the North American Indigenous Games.

Mr. Speaker, I would like to offer our sincere thanks to the many people and groups who were involved in the 2018 Arctic Winter Games held in the South Slave Region from March 18 to March 24. 

I acknowledge Mr. Greg Rowe, President of the Arctic Winter Games Host Society, his dedicated Board of Directors and staff, whose efforts over many months resulted in the delivery of a very successful Games.  All Northwest Territories’ residents should be proud. 

2018 Outstanding Volunteers Honoured

YELLOWKNIFE (May 24, 2018) – Alfred Moses, Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA), will present the Northwest Territories (NWT) 2018 Outstanding Volunteer Awards at a ceremony today in Yellowknife.  These annual awards provide an opportunity to recognize volunteers and volunteer organizations for their outstanding contributions in communities across the territory.

Recipients of the 2018 NWT Outstanding Volunteer Awards are:

NWT Alert Ready

YELLOWKNIFE (May 7, 2018) – On May 9th, 2018 at 1:55 p.m., the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) will issue a live test of NWT Alert Ready, the Northwest Territories public alerting system. Residents may see and hear the public alert test on their cell phone, radio stations and cable networks across the NWT.

Call for Applications for the 2018-2019 NGO Stabilization Fund

YELLOWKNIFE (April 25, 2018) - The Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA), Alfred Moses has issued the annual call for applications for the 2018 NGO Stabilization Fund.

The NGO Stabilization Fund provides special funding to help NGOs that deliver critical GNWT-funded programs or services to the public to stabilize or develop their capacity to manage programs and services.

Mr. Speaker, it is my pleasure to provide Members with information on the 2018 Arctic Winter Games, which are being hosted from March 18 to March 24 in the South Slave Region.

The Northwest Territories has been an active participant in the Arctic Winter Games since their inception in 1970.  These games are an important celebration of sport and culture for youth from the circumpolar region. We are proud to host the 2018 Games, and we are even more proud of Team NT who will be representing the Northwest Territories.
