Caroline Cochrane: Community Government Web-Based Training

Mr. Speaker, one of our government’s mandate commitments is to implement online delivery of a community government training curriculum to build the capacity of community governments. I would like to inform Members about the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs’ progress in the development and implementation of web-based training opportunities for community governments.

Caroline Cochrane: Recognizing Northwest Territories Olympians

Mr. Speaker,   today, I rise as the Minister responsible for Sport to congratulate three prominent athletes, all with ties to the Northwest Territories, who are competing for Canada at the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea.   On behalf of the Government of the Northwest Territories, and all of our residents, I am proud to speak today about Brendan Green, Jesse Cockney, and Kevin Koe. 

Minister Cochrane Congratulates NWT Olympians

YELLOWKNIFE (February 6, 2018) – Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs Caroline Cochrane issued the following statement congratulating NWT Olympians:

Program Design Selected for the Northwest Territories 9-1-1 Service

YELLOWKNIFE (February 5, 2018) – The Honourable Caroline Cochrane, Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA), and the Honourable Glen Abernethy, Minister of Health and Social Services (HSS), today announced a key decision in the program design for the Northwest Territories’ (NWT) new 9-1-1 service: an in-house Primary Public Safety Answering Point will be established, co-located with the existing HSS Med-Response program.

YELLOWKNIFE (January 16, 2018) - Today, the department of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA), announced the annual notice of the nomination deadline for the Northwest Territories (NWT) Outstanding Volunteer Awards. This year marks the 28th year of this award, which recognizes and celebrates the remarkable contributions volunteers make in communities across the NWT.

Caroline Cochrane: Northwest Territories 9-1-1 Program

Mr. Speaker, this government is committed to improving access to services and enhancing community wellness and safety through the implementation of a territorial 9-1-1 Program.

I would like to describe some of the key steps the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs has taken to ensure that 9-1-1 becomes a reality for the territory and that the 9-1-1 Program benefits all of our communities.

Municipal Administrator Appointed in Norman Wells

YELLOWKNIFE (October 18, 2017) – The Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA) has determined that the Municipal Corporation of the Town of Norman Wells (‘the Town’) is experiencing operational difficulties. 

Under the authority provided through section 155(1) of the Cities, Towns and Villages Act, SNWT 2003, c22, the Minister has dissolved the Town Council and appointed a Municipal Administrator effective October 18, 2017. The Minister has appointed Eleanor Young, Deputy Minister of MACA, as Administrator for the Town.
