NWT Alert live test

On November 27th, 2019 at 09:55 am, the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) will issue a live test of NWT Alert, the Northwest Territories public alerting system. Residents may see and hear the public alert test on cell phones, radio stations and cable networks across the NWT.

 

9-1-1 Go Live

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is pleased to announce that 9-1-1 service is now available in  all 33 communities in the Northwest Territories. 

 

9-1-1 service in the Northwest Territories will make it faster for residents to contact emergency services that exist in their community. It will save lives and make the North safer and more resilient. A lot of work and consultation has gone into launching this service since the passing of the legislation in March.

Good morning, everyone. 

It is a pleasure to join our Member of Parliament, Michael McLeod, as well as my colleagues from the Legislative Assembly for today’s announcement of federal funding for projects important to Northwest Territories communities.

As the Minister responsible for Municipal and Community Affairs, I am pleased to be working with Infrastructure Canada in implementing the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program Agreement.

Alfred Moses: 2019 Northwest Territories Track and Field Championships

Mr. Speaker, I rise today to recognize the athletes, coaches, chaperones and most importantly all the volunteers who are making their way to Hay River for the annual Northwest Territories Track and Field Championships.

At 1:00pm today events will commence making this the 29th Anniversary of one of the Northwest Territories premier sporting events.  I, along with some of my colleague from the House will be in attendance for the opening ceremonies tonight.

Alfred Moses - Northwest Territories 9-1-1 Implementation Update

Mr. Speaker, this government is committed to improving access to emergency services and enhancing community wellness and safety through the rollout of the 9-1-1 service in all 33 communities.

 

The three-digit telephone number “9-1-1” is known as the number to call in emergencies throughout North America. The 9-1-1 service gives the public fast and easy access to our communities’ emergency services in situations when someone’s health, safety or property is in jeopardy or when a crime is in progress.

 

2019 Outstanding Volunteers Honoured

Today, Alfred Moses, Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs will present the Northwest Territories (NWT) 2019 Outstanding Volunteer Awards at a ceremony in Yellowknife.  These annual awards provide an opportunity to show our appreciation to volunteers and volunteer organizations for their outstanding contributions in communities across the territory.

On May 30th, 2019, the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs will present the Northwest Territories (NWT) 2019 Outstanding Volunteer Awards at a ceremony in Yellowknife.  These annual awards provide an opportunity to show our appreciation to volunteers and volunteer organizations for their outstanding contributions in communities across the territory.

 MACA presents the NWT Outstanding Volunteer Awards annually to one individual, one youth, one elder, and one group who have helped improve the quality of life in the NWT through volunteerism.

NWT Alert Ready live test

On May 8th, 2019 at 1:55pm, the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) will issue a live test of NWT Alert Ready, the Northwest Territories public alerting system. Residents may see and hear the public alert test on wireless devices, radio stations and cable networks across the NWT.

 

NWT Alert Ready is being developed to provide public alerts to NWT residents during emergencies and disasters and is part of the national public alerting system “Alert Ready”. The system is currently under development with full implementation expected in 2019.
